Abby and I are both passionate about personal discipleship and want to see people flourish in their walk with Christ. We love Japan and want to help the Japanese find purpose and worth in being loved by God. We want to help believers walk confidently in the Holy Spirit, empowered, guided, and ready to serve.
Next Steps
JOIN YWAM STAFF
We applied to become Youth With A Mission or YWAM staff because we believe in YWAM's mission and its work. YWAM is our sending organization, and our support goes through them. When we leave for Japan, we become Field Staff. A couple of other perks are cheap on-base housing, discounted courses, and on-field support from our home base in Colorado Springs. Though there is a two-year commitment, they don't prevent us from going to Japan and becoming field staff.
SECONDARY COURSES
We want to take a couple specific secondary courses during our time in Colorado Springs that we believe will prepare us for missions in Japan. Each course lasts roughly 12 weeks. We will need to fundraise for these on top of our monthly support. It's a possibility we will spend less time in Colorado Springs and do a secondary course in Japan.
VISION TRIP
During our 3-month practicum in Japan, we will visit a dozen or so ministries serving them for a week at a time to see what resonates with Abby and me. We will stay with YWAM bases there, which is a staff perk. Hopefully, during this trip, we will learn what God wants us to start off doing in Japan for ministry. There is a chance we will just stay in Japan and become field staff with YWAM during that trip!
LAUNCH CIRCLE
The Launch Circle is the department that accepted us onto staff because of the gifts and skills they noticed in us. They said we could help them this season, and they can train us for missions. The launch Circle is the group of people who send, sustain, and refresh the active YWAM missionaries. They host missionaries during breaks, do two missionary retreats in East Asian countries a year, and help train the new YWAMers to teach the Bible cross-culturally. In summary, they focus on the active mission work! We will work with this group until we move to Japan to learn from missionaries daily!
SOSM
SOSM is a 12-month course that brings in full-time missionaries to teach on strategic, effective mission work. They'll cover topics such as teaching the bible cross-culturally, making disciples cross-culturally, understanding different world-views, working in a multicultural team, and language learning. They also have us prepare and complete a 12-week outreach/practicum to graduate from this school that must be completed within a two year window. We begin SOSM on September 21st, and we'll be staffing at the same time.
JAPAN
By mid-2026, we are hoping to move to Japan. We were originally saying 2027, but we believe we can learn much quicker if we are serving YWAM or another ministry in Japan. Please consider supporting us so we can be trained and sent well and stick with us in Japan!
